I’ve heard the good, the bad and the ugly about the no ‘poo movement and I just didn’t know what to think. On one hand I was sick to death of washing my hair everyday to every other day and it still being a massive frizz bomb (despite spending £20 on 1 bottle of specialist shampoo), but on the other the idea of going through a few weeks of seriously greasy hair just made me shudder.
Let me give you the whole picture. I have super -and I mean SUPER – fine hair, but I have loads of it. Just using a bobby pin is enough to break my hair and leave me with a little fluffy fringe. Not to mention that no product on earth ever gives my hair body for more than 2 hours and most products are far too heavy making it limp, lifeless and stuck to my head. For all intents and purposes my hair is my biggest, baddest nemesis.
After reading Effi’s blog on her experience with no ‘poo and the fact it gave her hair immense body I figured it’s worth a go. Yes, greasy hair still makes me shudder and I’m still unsure but it’s a last ditch attempt for me to love my hair.
I am currently 3 days in as I write this and honestly I do miss shampoo. The oily residue left of my hands after washing my hair with only water is a bit gross but it doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would in all honesty. I’m giving myself 2 weeks to stick with this before I decide whether it’s working or not, but I can say I already have MUCH more body to my hair than previously.
On a ‘professional’ note it’s the best time for me to try this out. I no longer work in an office, I can wear smart/casual outfits to work (which for me often include a headscarf) and as I’m still waiting on my DBS I’m not working as much as I will be, giving me time to hide my hair indoors.
If you want to keep up to date with my daily journey I’m posting little daily vlogs on Twitter and Snapchat, and will be putting together a vlog and post about my experience once the two weeks is up – wish me luck?
Have you tried the no ‘poo movement or just think I’m totally gross? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
